Family Obituaries

Death claims queers in any number of ways. The intention of the Family Obituaries page is to provide a memorial honoring the Queer Family members we have lost through violence, suicide, or natural causes. If there is someone who you would like to have listed on this memorial page, please leave a comment for the webmaster. Be sure to inlcude: Name, LGBT stance (queer or advocate), age, date of birth, date of death, cause of death. Also, briefly describe how you knew the person you wish to memorialize.

(Due to the nature of this memorial page updates will occur).

David Kato, Ugandan Gay Rights Activist: murdered in his home. David Kato's picture was posted in a local newspaper with 99 other people and the words "Hang Them". I'm not sure how the other 99 people are doing after this incident. Scary things are going on in Uganda, especially for homosexuals. Uganda passed an Anti-Homosexuality Bill in 2010, the bill's highest punishment is death. Earlier in 2010, three American Christian fundamentalists went to Uganda to speak to religious communities, during these speeches homosexuality was so strongly condemned that religious leaders and law makers felt the need to enact legislation that penalized homosexuals with death. (Note: the three links in this paragraph will take you to Human Rights Campaign articles).
